To time with Great British Beef Week 2025, international flexible packaging specialist Korozo Group has reiterated its support for a global industry that demands innovative and sustainable solutions.
Great British Beef Week is an important date in the meat industry calendar. Last year, the UK produced close to one million tonnes of beef and veal, according to figures quoted by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board. This was up 4% when compared to 2023. 2024 was also a stronger year for UK beef exports, with volumes for January to November up by 8% year-on-year at 132,000 tonnes. Volumes exported to the EU increased, notably into France and the Netherlands. Shipments to markets further afield experienced growth too, particularly Canada and Hong Kong, illustrating the global interest and continued appeal of beef and other meats around the world.
With strong demand comes the need for supply chain solutions that ensure product integrity and guarantee quality from the farm to the table. As an international manufacturer of flexible packaging solutions that are engineered to provide the required performance characteristics, alongside exemplary sustainability credentials, Korozo provides lidding, skin, and thermoforming films suited to the needs of packaging complex proteins such as beef.
Irem Altinay, Field Sales Manager in the UK & Ireland for Korozo Group, said: “The beef market is a sector that demands consistency, reliability, and innovation. We already work closely with several major meat processors and brands to supply high quality flexible packaging solutions that also support their sustainability goals.
“Sustainable packaging is becoming critical to the long-term success of the British beef industry. Consumers are more environmentally conscious than ever, and retailers are under increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprint. Packaging must now deliver on both functionality and sustainability protecting the product while minimising environmental impact.
“We have a dedicated sustainability team that keeps track of upcoming UK legislation for recyclability, such pEPR. Solutions like recyclable films, downgauged materials, and mono-material structures are key to driving the industry forward.
“Korozo is actively investing in R&D to develop innovative, sustainable packaging that supports the needs of meat processors and retailers. Our R&D efforts provide recyclable flexible films and mono-material solutions that reduce plastic usage without compromising shelf life or product integrity.”
As well as developing sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions, Korozo offers professional technical service to help customers run these films effectively and efficiently on their machines to deliver high performance.
Kemal Yürüm, Protein Market Segment Manager at Korozo Group, added: “The meat, fish, and dairy sectors represent some of the most demanding applications in food packaging. With strict requirements for product protection, shelf-life extension, and food safety compliance, these markets require sophisticated packaging solutions that maintain product freshness while ensuring consumer convenience.
“Our expertise in film extrusion, knowledge of sustainable solutions, and close ties to the market provide an unrivalled offer for beef manufacturers, in the UK and around the world. We look forward to supporting the industry’s further growth with sustainable and circular packaging innovations.”
