Championing sustainable innovation on World Environment Day 2025

04/06/25

Korozo Group, a leading international manufacturer of flexible packaging, is marking World Environment Day 2025 by urging the industry to accelerate its innovation efforts and contribute to building a future that prioritises environmental health and responsible resource use.

World Environment Day (5 June 2025) is actively promoting a healthier future for people and the planet by calling on governments, communities, and individuals to do more to #BeatPlasticPollution.

Korozo Group embraces the responsibility to help transform the packaging industry by championing product innovation and advancing circular solutions.

Korozo Group CEO Adam Barnett said: “As the world confronts environmental degradation, economic uncertainty, and social inequality, the need for sustainability-focused practices has never been more pressing.

“Packaging plays a powerful role in shaping a more circular economy. We are embedding sustainability in our DNA not only through strategy but through day-to-day operations aligned with global environmental objectives.”

At the heart of Korozo’s approach is a vision for a circular economy, where reducing, reusing, and recycling become foundational principles. Today, approximately two-thirds of the company’s total production consists of packaging structures designed for recyclability many of which already incorporate significant proportions of recycled content.

Korozo is working closely with global brands and retailers to bring recyclable, PCR-integrated flexible packaging to market. Solutions are being developed and commercialised across a broad range of industries from stand-up pouches for confectionery and pet food to lidding films and flow packs for fresh and dry foods.

At the core of this offering is KoroRCY, Korozo’s proprietary laminated film, which enables the creation of mono-material flexible packaging designed for compatibility with polyethylene (PE) recycling streams.

Many of these structures now feature 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, supporting the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) targets of all packaging being recyclable by 2030 and plastic formats containing at least 35% PCR.

Dr. Betül Türel Erbay, Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer, added: “We are scaling our capabilities and building Korozo’s role at the centre of the circular packaging value chain. Through strong partnerships and our in-house extrusion expertise, we support brands in meeting regulatory expectations and consumer demand for packaging that’s both functional and responsible.”

She continued: “World Environment Day is an opportunity for the entire flexible packaging sector to step forward and collaborate for change. We invite our industry peers to join us in delivering progress, pack by pack.”
